Hawera (NZ) on Sunday
Race 1-Forty Eight makes his maiden debut in this maiden hurdles race but won on the flat last time out. He is ridden by top jumps jockey Shaun Fannin and is a good chance here.
Race 2-Run Jacko Run ran sixth of fourteen on the flat last time finishing four lengths from the winner. Prefers a heavy track but against hurdlers looks a very good chance. Placed third at his only hurdles race last year.
Race 3-Verry Flash is a class horse on the flat. Over hurdles he should be too good for these. He will be fit after two flat races.
Race 4-Hey Happy was the $1.50 beaten favourite last time out. He is worth another chance at better odds.
Race 5-Whosaid finished less than three lengths from the winner at Woodville at his third start. This is an amateur rider’s race and Kevin Myers tends to win those.
Race 6-Shez Super drops in grade from her effort 8/5 where she was hampered for room. This looks like her time to shine.
Race 7-Media Miss looks close to her peak after a solid run on the all weather last time out when she finished within three lengths of Opawa Jack.
Race 8-Doctor Askar is the obvious chance here on form but heavy going may be a problem.
Race 9-Pinkerton won first up. He is trained by Mark Oulaghan and his horses usually win two on end when in form.
Race 10-Bruno is my pick here. He ran a half a length second at Wanganui last time. This will be just his third race.
Longshots
Race 8-Come to Terms is a local horse on debut and is ridden by a 4kg claimer. I have seen a 4kg claimer winning on a debutante previously.
Madam Pele and Mossraaj are two other locals in the same race.
