Kaipana hard to beat in the Pretty Polly Stakes

KAIPANA won at Newmarket by 10 lengths last time out. On that basis I am picking him to win again. He has a 121 form line from three starts. His first two races were on the all weather. If his turf debut is anything to go by he has a bright future.

SILVER LADY is my nap bet for the day at Newmarket on Sunday. This mare won a G2 at Meydan Mey last time out. That being her second win in five starts. A horse that has raced six times or less and has a Group win to their credit must be above average. Silver Lady is at 4/1. Running Lion, who won the Pretty Polly Stakes last year is the favourite. He has a better record on the all weather. His turf record is 1 win from 6 starts.

DANCE SEQUENCE is my pick to win the 1000 Guineas at Newmarket on Sunday (UK time) This filly has raced three times. She was unbeaten in two starts as a two year old which included a Group 3 race at Newmarket. She has become a Newmarket specialist because all of her three races to date have been at Newmarket. She finished second in mid-April at guess where? Newmarket. The margin was only a neck and she was the strong favourite that day. FALLEN ANGEL is the favourite. She has raced four times for three wins and a second. Her second was on soft going while the three wins came on good going. Fallen Angel won a G1 at the end of her two year old campaign. Her trainer Aidan O’Brien will have her ready for this assignment first up.

CITY OF TROY is the odds-on favourite for Saturday’s English 2000 Guineas. He has won all of his three races to date and they have been very dominant wins. That includes a G1 race at Newmarket. The favourite has not won the 2000 Guineas since Churchill won the race in 2017. That is a 6 run losing streak. Prior to this six run losing streak of favourites, the race was won by 5 out of 7 favourites so judging by that, the favourite in this race is long overdue.

The unbeaten DANCE SEQUENCE is the odds[-on favourite for the Neil Gwyn Stakes at Newmarket. Both of her two wins was at the same course and distance as Wednesday’s race. William Buick will ride Dance Sequence. The Irish filly MATRIKA is worth backing at 9/2; she is the second favourite. Matrika was the 2/5 favourite when winning at the Curragh last time. OTTOMAN FLEET will be very hard to beat in the Sefton Stakes at Newmarket on Wednesday and he has the record to back up his chances. In four starts on the course he has won three times and finished second on the other. He won the Sefton Stakes last year so this should be two wins in the race. ROYAL RHYME will be his biggest challenger. He is unbeaten at Newmarket. HE has won up to listed company but has a 50%+ winning record and last ran at G1 level so is a serious threat to the Ottoman Fleet.

IMPERATRIZ may be the warm favourite but Bella Nipotina  offers each way value. She wasn’t that far away in both of her starts this time, finishing within 2 lengths of the winner in both the Lightning Stakes and Newmarket Handicap. She has never finished out of the first three at Moonee Valley and is drawn handily at 3. Imperatriz is unbeaten in 4 starts at the Valley while CYlinder may have just turned a corner with his win in the Newmarket Handicap.

It is hard to see IMPERATRIX get beaten in the Newmarket Handicap at Flemington. She is expected to improve on her first up win which is a scary thought for her rivals. CHALDEAN was the beaten favourite at Newbury last time out. That was a race where he unseated his rider so we will never know how he would have done if it had not been for that mishap. He had won four races on end last season. One of those was in a Group 1. His record in stakes races is 111-UR. Most of the runners are making their seasonal debut and you just never know how they might go. Silver Knott from the Appleby stable is a good each way chance. He finished second at Keeneland USA last year and is good value at 12/1

Auguste Rodin favourite for the English 2000 Guineas

English 2000 Guineas preview

The 2000 Guineas at Newmarket will be held May 6^th. Here are the current four favourites.

Auguste Rodin (2111) is the current favourite. He won a G1 at Doncaster last time. His three wins were on yielding, soft, and heavy going. His second was on good going and that was against maidens. Unless he gets some sting out of the track he may be vulnerable.

Little Big Bear(21111) another G1 winner from last season. That came at The Curragh. His last three wins were on good to fast going. Little Big Bear has never won past 6f so that is a concern for backers.

Chaldean (51111-UR) is another G1 winner at Newmarket. He had an outing at Newbury 22/04 when he unseated the rider. He was favourite in that race. His four wins as a two year old were over 7f so the mile should suit and so will good to fast going. He did win on soft going in a field of only three runners.

Royal Scotsman (413152) Finished a close second to Chaldean at G1 last season. His form line suggests that he prefers good going. Both of his wins came at 6f.
