La Crique the class horse at Rotorua

La Crique the class horse at Rotorua

If class is anything to go by then LA CRIQUE should be the bet of the day at Rotorua. This mare is a multiple G1 winner and won the G1 WFA at Otaki last time out. She is at least 10 rating points ahead of anything else in the race. A wet track could throw a spanner in the works with IMPREVU, WESSEX, and MILLEFIORI ready to take advantage if tat happens. Imprevu is unbeaten at Rotorua while Wessex and Milliefiore have won three times in heavy going.

Rotorua selections

Here is a system for the Rotorua meeting this coming Saturday 11 May, 2024. Rotorua is a noted horses for courses track so you would expect trainers of past winners at Rotorua to target this meeting. I think the same thing will probably apply to the Chester Cup in England  meeting which starts on 8 May (UK time).

Rule one. Note all horses which have won at Rotorua

Rule two. Horse must have a career strike-rate of at least 20% wins to starts.

That’s it.

Here are some results from the past three years.

Hey Hey Baby career record 4-1-0-0 Course record 1-1-0-0 $5.00

Poser career record 15-3-1-1 Course record 3-1-0-0 $8.30

Raajoices career record 5-1-0-0 Course record 1-1-0-0 $4.40

Supreme Heights career record 19-7-3-2 Course record 2-2-0-0 2nd $1.60

Pop Star Princess and Supreme Heights finished first and second in the 2021 Rotorua Stakes.

System selections for 11/5/24

New Plymouth Horse Racing Betting System

Here is a simple horse racing system for this Saturday’s Taranaki meeting at New Plymouth. Simply note all of the Taranaki trained horses and back the one at the shortest price. This is a meeting which Taranaki trainers target and have dominated in recent years. Allan Sharrock and Robbie Patterson are the two leading Taranaki trainers. These two have the best strike-rate of any New Zealand trainer in the top ten.

The Fearless One hard to beat at Otaki

The Fearless One hard to beat at Otaki

THE FEARLESS ONE was beaten a neck by LIGHTNING JACK at the course and distance at Otaki 13/4 and has a chance in better going because the going that day was a heavy 9. He has never won in anything other than good. Lightning Jack won with an allowance last start. He is capable of backing that up especially if the going is heavy again. He is a past G3 winner and races best during Autumn. ISLINGTON LASS is an interesting horse. She has won five of her eight races and this is her open handicap debut. She has not won on heavy going so that could be a problem for her. If it is heavy, PRINCE ALBY will be a major chance. The drop back from 2200m will not be a problem if the going is heavy. MR MOJO RISIN is making his open handicap debut. He won at Otaki last time at 1400m. PRIDE OF ASPEN has won three times at Otaki. Her saddle slipped last time out so she is worth another chance. This is a race where punters should watch the weather and then make their decisions accordingly.

Bold Belle picked in the City of Napier Sprint

Bold Belle picked in the City of Napier Sprint

BOLD BELLE can win the City of Napier Sprint first up. This mare has won three of her twelve starts; two of her wins were first up and the other was second up. She has had two trials to prepare for this so another first up win is on the cards. ARIS ARIS finished a close second at Tauranga last time and she is a winning chance in t his. All of her wins have been on slow tracks.

Rudyard selected at Tauranga

RUDYARD is selected to win the Japan Trophy at Tauranga on Saturday, a G2 event for handicappers run under a set weight and penalties conditions. Rudyard may not be as well off at the weights as some but he is in the best form of his life and last time out he carried 60kg when finishing within 2 lengths of Adam I Am. That was a top effort. The start before he won an open handicap at Ellerslie. Tony Pike trains Rudyard. SAINT BATHANS on a 7 day back from his 3rd at Tauranga last week is the other horse I like in this. He will be fit and ready for this assignment while SKYMAN is the top rated horse and has to be considered here.

Red Sea selected at Matamata

Photo by Aliaksei Semirski on Pexels.com

Red Sea is worth noting for Matamata

RED SEA finished fourth in the listed Slipper at Matamata 24/02 and back to a maiden race he is well placed. He has had the three starts for a second, fifth, and a fourth. The fifth was also a black type race. Red Sea is in race 4 at Matamata on Wednesday.

Other chances at Matamata are BAGGIO in race 2. He was beaten narrowly at Matamata on debut and is set to go one better.

The South Waikato Cup (race 7) is likely to go to SNAZZY TAVI who is right in that winning zone. She has a 1311 form line. She won at Matamata 24/02 beating WOLFGANG who won at Ellerslie on Saturday.

Race 8 may be just a maiden 2000m but CAMACHO is backing up from Taupo on Friday and is worth a bet at long odds. SAX ‘N’ SILKS is a three year old filly in the same race and is the danger.

Captured by Love picked at Ellerslie

It is hard to back against the unbeaten CAPTURED BY LOVE in the Group 1 Sistema Stakes at Ellerslie on Saturday. The classy two year old filly won the Matamata Breeders Stakes easily enough two weeks ago and this should be five wins in a row. The Slipper at Matamata has been a key race to this one in the past which makes SAVAGLEE some kind of chance but he prefers the sting out of the track. If he gets that he is a chance. VELOICIOUS, the Magic Millions winner is expected to be the favourite. She is all class but may need a dry track to beat this field.

Trust in You leading Auckland Cup chance

Photo by Anil Sharma on Pexels.com

Trust in You leading Auckland Cup chance

Terra MItica second best

TRUST IN YOU has the right credentials to win the Auckland Cup but there is one question mark and that is. “Will he stay 2 miles.”I think the way he has been running out his races leaves very little doubt. He finished on strongly over 2400 to win on New Years Day carrying the same weight. In the Nathan’s Memorial he carried 60kg when running second. He drops to 54kg this time. TERRA MITICA is consistent. She finished within 2 lengths of the winner in the Kaimai Stakes carrying 58kg and drops to 52.5kg. She was the beaten favourite over 2400m on New Years Day but I think the soft going put paid to her chances. WAISAKE, CANHEROC, and GOOD OIL are three horses worth watching and  these three could go cheeky races. Waisake is a former Wellington Cup winner, Canheroc ran third in this year’s Wellington Cup while Good Oil finished third in the Nathan’s Memorial.

Lady of Court picked in Dunedin 3YO Feature

Lady of Court picked in Dunedin 3YO Feature

Drakaina Big Chance

LADY OF COURT is picked to win the Airfreight Stakes at Wingatui on Saturday. She won at Riccarton last time in a fast time. The Te Akau runner. She will probably need a good track though. Her two stable mates MAZZUCATO and SENSE OF TIMING both have strong chances

Mazzucato ran fourth over 1200m at Wingatui last time and will find the 1400m more suitable as she has won twice at that distance. Sense of Timing ran third in the Dunedin Guineas and is a chance again. DRAKAINA is the other to consider. Jasmine Fawcett rides her. Draikaina finished a close second in the Dunedin Guineas and would be my second pick. She is right in this!
