Galopin des Champs odds on for the Punchestown Cup

Galopin des Champs odds on for the Punchestown Cup

(Irish jumps racing, Wednesday)

GALOPIN DES CHAMPS will start a long odds-on favourite for Wednesday’s Punchestown Cup in Ireland. He has been beaten just three times in twelve chases. He was the odds on favourite in those three races that he was beaten in and FASTOR SLOW won two of those races including this racer last year when Galopin des Champs was the 4/11 favourite. FAASTOR SLOW unseated the rider in the CHeltenham Gold Cup last time out but can bounce back from that. So he is an each way bet if you are going to oppose the favourite.

Jonbon picked for the Celebration Chase

Jonbon picked for the Celebration Chase

JONBON is strongly fancied to win the Celebration Chase at Sandown. He has raced ten times as a chaser and has been the odds-on favourite in nine of those races so if you can get a price of above even money on him you are doing well. Jonbon has won eight of his chasing starts and finished second in the other two. He won this race last year so it is hard to back anything else other than Jonbon. EL FABIOLO has a similar record to Jonbon. He has won six of his seven chases and pulled up in the other. That was at Cheltenham when he was the 2/9 favourite. El Fabiolo has been the odds-on favourite in six of his seven starts and will be this time as well. It will be an interesting clash between these two smart horses.

Kitty’s Light going for a double in Sandown Jumps Feature

Kitty’s Light going for a double in Sandown Jumps Feature

KITTY’S LIGHT will make his Fourth appearance at the Bet365 Chase at Sandown on Saturday. He ran second in 2021, third in 2022, and won it last year. His fifth placing in the Grand National at Aintree shows that he is nearing his peak again. He shows his best form deep into his campaign. This will be his seventh race of his current campaign. THREEUNDERTHRFIVE is a big danger. He is in consistent form of late and this has been achieved against reasonable opposition. He had wind surgery last year and he has turned his form around as a result.

Famous Bridge selected for the Great Yorkshire Chase

FAMOUS BRIDGE has the form line to suggest that he can win the Great Yorkshire CHase at Doncaster on Saturday. He has gone out as the favourite in his last four races and will be at 7/1 on Saturday which are juicy odds compared to his previous races.

Scottish Grand National on Saturday

Scottish Grand National on Saturday

The Scottish Grand National takes place at Ayr racecourse on Saturday. I have been taking a look at some of the early favourites for the race. The current favourite is Kitty’s Light, the winner of the Elder Chase at Newcastle in February. That was over 4 miles. Kitty’s Light had raced over 4 miles only once prior to that and it was in the 2022 Scottish Grand National when finishing second as the favourite. Kitty’s Light is around the 4/1 mark which is rather short. Mr Incredible is there in the market at 12/1. He has raced three times at 3m + for a 221 form line. He finished second at Cheltenham last time out. Your Own Story was beaten just half a length at Haydock last time out. However, he has raced in small fields. It will be a shock for him to come up against a large field that will line up at Ayr. Empire Steel won at Kelso last time beating Le Milos. He has won 4 races with 3 of them being at Kelso. He is another that has mainly raced in small sized fields.

Delta Work a leading Grand National prospect

Delta Work a leading Grand National prospect

DELTA WORK is one of the leading candidates for the Grand National Steeplechase at Aintree this year for several reasons, namely:

1. He finished third in last years Grand National

2. In six starts in England he has finished out of the first three just once.

Delta Work has won eight races over chases with six of them coming in Ireland.

Guetapan Collonges favourite in Midlands Grand National

Guetapan Collonges favourite in Midlands Grand National

GUETAPAN COLLENGES heads the market for the Midlands Grand National at Uttoxeter. He has compiled a very useful record over steeplechases of eight starts for four wins. He has raced at 3 miles 5 times for 3 wins. In the races he never won he fell in one of them and the other was in heavy going where he finished fourth. That suggests that a heavy track is a problem for him. Another Thing to note is that J J O’Neil will ride him. He has ridden Guetapan Collonges once before and was successful.

IWILLDOIT is the second favourite. He has raced over the fences five times for four wins and has a good record over 3 miles+ but his only failure over the fences came over 4m at Kelso. It is hard to ignore his form though. Stan Sheppard will ride Iwilldoit and he has not been beaten on the horse.

THE GALLOPING BEAR is third favourite. He has won 3 of his 6 chases. He finished second in the 4m Elder Chase at Newcastle three weeks ago and it is a wonder how he will back that up   so soon after that race.

FRENCH PARADOXE has also raced over fences six times for three wins. He is a last race winner at Newcastle and is a real live chance.

GESKILLE SELECTED AT AINTREE

Aintree-Geskille selected to win the Grand Sefton Chase

GESKILLE has a lot going for him in Saturday’s Grand Sefton Chase at Aintree. He has an excellent form line of 1211. Most of his racing has been done in Europe but he has won in England; in fact he is unbeaten in the Uk. His wins were at Kempton and Ludlow. Today will be his first run for the season but he will be ready for this. LIFETIME AMBITION is worth considering. He finished 2nd in a Grade 1 Novice Chase at Punchestown in April.
