Myers set for an early treble atr Te Rapa

Myers Team a good chance of an early treble at Te Rapa

The Kevin Myers trained team have three horses engaged at Te Rapa on Saturday and they all have a good chance of winning. Lochwinnoch ran second at Hawera 21/4 and is overdue. He has raced three times at the course and distance for a place.

Kickon has won five times at the mile and being on a 7-day backup will be fit. He is second up.

Hey Happy ran third over steeples at Hawera and will be fitter for that run.

The going was good at Hawera so the two horses that ran that day can be expected to improve with rain about.

Thooza picked for winning debut at Te Rapa

The two year old race at Te Rapa does not have any form of note and is likely to be won by a debutante. THOOZA is one of those. She won a recent trial over 800m and there is no reason why she cannot win on her debut unless of course the lack of experience beats her but her trainer Tony Pike is known for having his youngsters ready to go first up. JADE DRAGON and SISTER CYRANE are other debutantes that won recent trials and there is no reason why they cannot win on debut either,

Contribute set to make her mark at Te Rapa

CONTRIBUTE is a great chance of winning the Travis Stakes at Te Rapa on Saturday. The Robbie Patterson trained mare won the Taranaki Cup in February. After that she ran in the Kaimai Stakes at Matamata where she finished within two lengths of the winner SAINT ALICE. She had a freshener after that and resumed 13 April at Otaki where she ran third to Lightning Jack and The Fearless One, both male horses. The heavy going was not her most favoured track and Te Rapa is expected to provide better footing for her. APOSTROPHE is expected to be the danger after her Manawatu Breeders Stakes victory. She is the equal top rated runner with DISS IS DRAMATIC who won the Japan/BOP Trophy at Tauranga 23/3. Diss is Dramatic is trained by Lisa Latta and you have got to respect a latta trained runner when they trek north. SAINT ALICE is a classy mare who adds to the puzzle. She won the listed Kaimai Stakes, 24/2 but has not raced since finishing fourth to Pearl of Alsace at Ellerslie, 9/3.

Sindee picked at Te Rapa

Sindee one to beat in Te Rapa 3YO Feature

SINDEE is the one to beat in Saturday’s Cambridge Breeders Stakes if her form is anything to go by. She has won three of her four races and finished third in the other. Her most recent victory came at the same course and distance as Saturday’s race. Her biggest danger may be KOHEROA who finished a close second at Trentham 6/4. A wet track is not likely to inconvenience him. DECEMBER is another horse to consider. He has raced twice at Group level and finished out of the money at both those starts. He has won the races which are not black type. That was the reason why I backed him when he won at Taupo.

Backing both SINDEE and KOHEROA may be the way to go.

Sedaka selected in the Sunline Vase at Te Rapa

Sedaka selected in the Sunline Vase at Te Rapa

SEDAKA is my selection for the Sunline Vase at Te Rapa on Saturday but she needs a good track to show her best. She is the top rated runner in the race and they tend to win the fillies races. Last time she was bogged down in the heavy going in the Waikato Guineas but it will be a different story on top of the ground. SAFURA may be the danger. The Mark Walker trained filly will be ridden by Opie Bosson and that combination have a great record at te Auckland Cup meeting. SAKURA GIRL is another to consider in a very open field.

Fablue strong chance at Wanganui (race 7)

Fablue strong chance at Wanganui (race 7)

FABLUE is my best bet for Wanganui tomorrow. She has raced just five times for two wins with the most recent win being at Hastings 13/11. Her other win came at Wanganui. She is unbeaten at Wanganui. She has never finished out of the first three in wet ground so the heavy going will suit her down to the ground. The favourite for this race is SOLDIER BOY. He does not mind a wet track either. Soldier Boy has raced against much better fields than he faces here.

Canheroc is Te Rapa nap

CANHEROC (race 2 Te Rapa) is the horse I like for Saturday. He finished a strong 5th in the R75 grade last Saturday and drops in grade to R65. he will again get 3kg off with Maria Sanson riding him. Prior to last week’s race he won at Te Rapa over 2200, on 5th November which is the same distance he is tackling tomorrow. He is my nap selection of the day.

DEEP BEAUTY (race 8 Te Rapa) may get his due reward after two seconds on end. The most recent second was on the course and distance on Labour Day when he was a narrowly beaten second.

PRISE DE FER (race 7 Te Rapa) is possibly going to be the shortest priced favourite of the day or so he should be. He ticks all of the right boxes. $2.50 should be the right price for him.

CATS IN THE CRADLE (race 4 Cromwell Friday) may cause a boilover in this race. Her trainer Paul Harris has his horses engaged on both Friday and Sunday but this one is racing just the Friday.
