PRIS DE FER is the one to beat in the Trentham Stakes judging by his effort two starts ago in the Waikato Cup over 2400m. The edge may have been taken off him after that because he ran 7th in the G1 Zabeel Classic over 2100m. He s a class horse and Opie Bosson will get the most out of him. MATSCOT is one for longer odds as he raced in the G1 Captain Cook Stakes last time as did Massolino who is another one of the leading chances.

House of Cartier one to beat in Trentham Stakes

It is hard to go past HOUSE OF CARTIER in Saturday’s Trentham Stakes after her close second to Our Hail Mary in the Marton Cup last Saturday. She carried 59kg on that occasion and will have only 54kg this time. The only other horse which catches my interest is WAISAKE who comes right at the Wellington Cup meeting every year. HE finished down the track in the Marton Cup last Saturday. I think he is being aimed at the Wellington Cup but it wouldn’t surprise me if he catches punters napping here. CAMINO ROCOSSO won this two years ago but had two hard races last week so I have left him alone.

Banker’s Choice Selected in the Anniversary Handicap

BANKER’S CHOICE is a very progressive horse on the way up and should have no trouble with his assignment on Saturday. In nine starts he has won four races and has won like a good horse. His most recent win was on Boxing Day when he came from a long way back. NOD OF THE HEAD is likely to be the biggest danger for me. He finished 3rd at Awapuni after a slow beginning.
