English Oaks-Ylang Ylang favourite
YLANG YLANG (9/4) is the current favourite for the Epsom Oaks. This filly finished fifth, one length from the winner in the 1000 Guineas at Newmarket at her only start so far this season. She has raced six times with three of those races being at G1 level, one of those G1 races she won. She ticks a number of boxes in that she is a previous G1 winner while the majority in the race are making their G1 debuts. Ylang Ylang is trained by Aidan O’Brien, who also has another well supported runner in RUBIES ARE RED. This filly is still a maiden. She has finished placing in all of her three races. Last time out she ran second to YOU GOT TO ME at Lingfield, beaten a head. Rubies are Red’s chance will be enhanced by soft going. Her Lingfield race was run on good going. You Got to Me has raced three times for a 15×1 form line. Her fifth was run in heavy going so she can be excused for that effort. You Got to Me is at 12/1 while Rubies are Red is at 4/1. BUTTONS is a long shot chance if she starts. She ran fourth in the Irish 1000 Guineas on Sunday. Her best efforts seem to be on good going so at 33/1 is a blowout chance but will probably be withdrawn. The unbeaten FOREST FAIRY will have her supporters. She won on the all weather at Wolverhampton on debut then won the Cheshire Oaks at Chester in May. In both of those races she did not beat much so this is a huge step up in class. SECRET SATTIRE won at York in May. She has won twice from four starts. She seems to prefer good going.
MY VERDICT:
It will pay to pay close attention to the going on Saturday because that will be the factor which decides who is going to win this race. Ylang Ylang has raced on soft going twice and won each time so she seems to tick all of the right boxes. You Got to ME and Secret Sattire are two others to consider.
