LONG SHOT PRINCE OF PENZANCE WINS FOR MICHELLE PAYNE

Michelle Payne became the first lady to ride the Melbourne Cup winner when winning this year’s contest at long odds. It was a result few punters could have predicted but no real excuses for the beaten brigade.

Result

1-PRINCE OF PENZANCE
Upset winner. Michelle Payne rode a very good race to get this longshot home. (Good for her) Began his 2016 campaign at Caulfield on Saturday

2-MAX DYNAMITE
Game run in first race for weeks.

3-CRITERION
Carried a fair weight but still ran a huge race. Is one of the best horses in Australasia at the moment
4-TRIP TO PARIS
Followed up his Caulfield Cup second with good fourth here. May be back this year for another crack

Other Finishes;

5-BIG ORANGE

6-GUST OF WIND

Excellent run though not really up to genuine Group one level.

7-EXCESS KNOWLEDGE

Cracking effort after his Lexius win 3 days earlier.

8-THE OFFER

9-QUEST FOR MORE

Won Lonsdale Cup (Group 3) at York in August so may be back for another attempt.

10-OUR IVANHOWE

Did not get the best of runs but may have had his chances now.

11-WHO SHOT THE BARMAN

Did not get the best of runs, maybe he will be back for a 3rd attempt in 2016

12-SERTORIOUS

13-FAME GAME

A lot of fingers got severely burned with Fame Game. Doubtful if he will be back in 2016

14-THE UNITED STATES

Kicked off his campaign on Saturday 3 September so may be back for another crack. Seems to like Moonee Valley best though where he won last year’s Moonee Valley Cup beating Prince of Penzance.

15-HARTNELL

Very disappointing you would have to say but so far this season has a win and a second from two starts in Melbourne this season.

16-BONDI BEACH

17-HOKKO BRAVE

18-ALMOONQITH

Well back in the Cup but won the Sandown Cup at his next start.

19-KING FISHER

20-PREFERMENT

Disappointing you would have to say. SIMPLY NO EXCUSES  as far as I can see

21-GRAND MARSHAL

22-SKY HUNTER

23-SNOW SKY

DNF-RED CADEAUX
